Howard Ford, Jr. served with the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant with Company E, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division during World War II. He was killed in action at Sainte-Mère-Église, France on July 10, 1944. A platoon leader, he participated in the invasion of Normandy and led troops across the Douve River. He is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, St. Laurent-sur-Mer, France.
