Roy Atchison served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S Marine Corps, 4th Military Police Battalion, Fleet Marine Force during World War II. He was commissioned in early 1945 and had been overseas less than four months when he was killed by a Japanese sniper on Guam on December 8, 1945.
