Robert Brown served in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant in the First Battalion, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division in World War I. In charge of a machine gun company, Brown was killed on October 4, 1918 while manning a machine gun in defense of the village of Apremont in the Argonne Forest in France.
