Frank Frazier served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant in Naval Aviation, 530th Fighter Squadron, 311th Fighter Group during World War II. He was a pilot of torpedo plane in Torpedo Squadron Three attached to U.S.S. Yorktown. On January 9, 1945, on a mission against Kiirun Harbor, Formosa, his plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire and Frazier was forced to make a landing in the water. He was last seen in a rubber lifeboat. He was declared missing on January 9, 1945, and declared officially dead on January 9, 1946. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and Distinguished Flying Cross.
