James Grifasi served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in Company E, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 25th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War. He was killed in action on March 26, 1970 by small arms fire in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam. He received the following awards: two Purple Hearts, Bronze Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Medal of Honor, Good Conduct Medal, two Republic of Vietnam Service Medals, two National Defense Medals, Infantryman Award medal, and the Conspicuous Service Cross from Governor Rock of New York.
