Gordon Campbell served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in A Company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry, 196th Light Infantry Brigade in the Vietnam War. He was killed in action on January 10, 1968 in the Quang Tin Province (Chu Lai area) of South Vietnam at Cascade Hill. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.
