William Boyd served in the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Korean War. He died on October 19, 1967 when the Phantom jet fighter he was piloting crashed. During his career, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster, and Air Force Commendation Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster.
