Second Lieutenant Robert Aird Jr. served as a Military Police officer in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He was assigned to the Office of Provost Marshal, Headquarters, 529th Air Service Group. Entering the AAF in October, 1942, Aird was called to active duty in April, 1943. He was trained at Ft. Logan, Colorado, and at Pocatello, Idaho. Assigned to the 779th Bomb Sq., 464th Bomb Group, he arrived in North Africa in March, 1944, and was sent to Naples, Italy, that April. Holder of the Presidential Unit Citation awarded to his bomb group, he was given a field commission as an AAF 2nd Lieutenant in August, 1945. Aird was killed in a motorcycle accident in Foggia, Italy on February 28, 1946.
